Annual report 2025
About Gammol
Gammol vzw is a Belgian non-profit organization, founded in 2002. We are a recognized NGO in The Gambia.
Gammol's mission is to contribute to a sustainable future in The Gambia by providing access to clean water, food, education, and healthcare.
We base our operations on 5 pillars:
- Transparency
- Efficiency and creativity
- Continuity
- Collaboration and self-reliance
- Independence
Our achievements in 2025:
- Clean water: we installed seven new wells, carried out major expansions in two villages, and replaced a water pump, a borehole, and a water tank. We also provided the necessary maintenance for the other wells.
- Education: we built a new school in Faraba Suutu with three classrooms as a nursery school and three classrooms as a primary school.
- Healthcare: Flemish nurses went to Gambia to train local staff in wound care.
- Food: The pilot project for rice production entered a second phase and achieved positive results. We also focused more on developing community gardens in line with our water installations.
As a result, tens of thousands of people now have clean, potable water every day, thanks to Gammol. This is an essential prerequisite for a healthy life. In addition, vegetables are grown for self-sufficiency, and surpluses are sold at the local market, enabling families to generate limited income.
Gammol builds schools in more remote areas where resources are scarce and the population is too poor to provide their own schools. As a result, children are given the opportunity to learn at a young age. Our ambition is to provide quality education by developing curricula and assessments in collaboration with schools.
All the resources we receive from our many sponsors are used in Gambia to provide maximum support to the local economy.
Gammol remains a small organization, but precisely because of this, its operations are very efficient and effective. In Belgium, we operate entirely on volunteers, and as a result, we spend only a minimal portion of our total budget on our own operating costs. In Gambia, we have two local employees who receive a fair wage.
We carefully select future projects together with local authorities, ensuring they have the greatest possible impact on the local population.
The income
In 2025 we received €140,719 in income.
Individuals donated € 31,469, and businesses € 106,400. A large group of donors, both individuals and businesses, does this annually. We are extremely grateful for this. It guarantees the continuity of our work.
We received larger donations from several businesses and individuals who are well-disposed towards our projects.
The most important businesses and organizations are: Link/Manage, Wisa, Lotus Bakeries Corporate, Erard, 4Progress, Pittman Seafoods, and Lions Club Lokeren.
The fundraising activities raised € 1,350.
The expenses of the vzw in Belgium
In 2025, Gammol vzw spent € 156,881. For its operations in Belgium, € 318, or 0.2% of the budget, was used for bank fees and insurance. The remaining € 156,563 went to our NGO in Gambia.
The expenditure of NGO Gammol in The Gambia
In The Gambia, we spent € 154,731 on projects benefiting the local population: water supply (€ 80,507), education (€ 45,304), wound care (€ 14,982), and agriculture (€ -257).
Our operating costs in The Gambia amount to € 14,195, the largest part of which goes towards renovating the Gammol house (€ 4,881), the wages of our two permanent employees (€ 3,149), and major repairs and maintenance of the car (€ 3,546).
Projects in The Gambia
The total cost of our projects in The Gambia in 2025 amount to € 154 731.
The most important are:
Water
- We installed seven new water supply systems, each with a double tower containing two 5,000-liter tanks,
1,500 meters of pipes, and 15 taps. The water pumps are powered by solar panels. Therefore, the pump
stops after sunset. The village then relies on the remaining water volume in the tanks.
The following villages received a new water supply (€70,885):- Kafuta Village. The well was drilled in 2024, and the pump, tower, and pipes were installed in 2025;
- Brufut Kenebaring;
- Brufut Tintinto;
- iboro Koto;
- Giboro Sukuta;
- Kuloro Nema;
- Tubakuta Village.
- Water system expansion (€8,294):
- Faala Village: two new towers with two 5,000-liter tanks and 9 taps; o Gidda Sukuta: second tower with a 5,000-liter tank, 5 additional taps;
- Sanyang Beach: 2 additional taps at various locations in the fishing industry.
- Repairs (€1,369):
- Joreng Village: a new well was drilled in 2024 and connected in 2025;
- Mandinaba Darusalam: The use of the water system no longer complies with Gammol's terms and conditions. The system will be dismantled, and the pump and solar panels will be recovered.
- Nemisat: replacement of a cracked water tank;
- Pacholing Village: repair of a defective water pump.
Education
- New school in Faraba Suutu: 6 classrooms, teacher's room, restrooms (€43,671)
- 3 primary school students will be doing a 3-month internship and will stay at the Gammol house
- Mango Preschool: educational painting, purchase of teaching materials (€1,430)
- Gammol School Committee: organizing a collaborative approach aimed at raising the standard of teaching (€203)
Wound care - Leetulor
- Leetulor wound care (€ 14 982)
We are sending additional medical supplies and providing food for our local volunteers so they can continue providing wound care in the villages. Flemish nurses will be on missions to train and support volunteers. They are also looking for new volunteers in other villages.
Agriculture (rice)
- Rijce production (€ -257)
We are starting a second phase of a pilot project for rice cultivation. One hectare will be cultivated. The goal is to assess its economic feasibility. After selling the rice, there will be a small positive result.
Result
2025 was a year in which we were able to realize many projects: seven new wells and a new school.
The majority of our expenses were covered by donations from our many sponsors. We also drew on our available liquidity. Gammol vzw closed 2025 with a negative result of € 16,162.
Furthermore, there remains sufficient liquidity (€61,296) for new projects in 2026.
Expectation 2026
Together with our team on site, and available budget from the past years and thanks to our sponsors, we hope to close the year 2025 with these projects:
Water
- 4 to 6 new water wells;
- Expansion of existing installation. Existing villages are motivated to take the initiative themselves. In the case of good initiatives, we will provide an expansion;
- Maintenance of existing installations.
Education
- This year, the focus will be on improving school operations and collaboration between schools;
- Students will also do a three-month internship in 2026.
Wound care - Leetulor
- Supply and train Leetulor health workers.
Agriculture
- We are continuing the pilot project for rice production and investigating how we can increase profitability.
