About Gammol
Gammol vzw is a Belgian non-profit organization, founded in 2002, that is committed to a more sustainable future in Gambia. In 2019, a new board will take over Gammol, which, in addition to healthcare and education, will focus on self-reliance and initiative. Whereby the financial resources are used to the maximum extent possible to support the local economy.
Healthcare:
- The availability of clean water is an essential basic condition for a healthy life. Our focus remains on further expanding our water projects. As a result, more than 120,000 people in Gambia now have clean, drinkable water every day.
- Our water installations give the villages the opportunity to grow vegetables in community gardens, which enables children and adults to live healthier lives.
- Leetulor focuses specifically on training local villagers to treat wounds, so that infections are prevented.
- In the Gammol schools, we strive to offer the children a meal at noon.
Education:
- Gammol builds schools in more remote areas, where there are no resources available and the population is too poor to provide a school themselves.
- Our ambition is to offer quality education by developing curricula and tests together with the schools.
- The Gammol School Community is a platform where teachers can learn from each other.
Gammol is a small organization, but precisely because of that very efficient and effective in its operations. In Belgium, we run 100% on volunteers, and therefore only spend a minimum of our total budget on our own operating costs. In Gambia, we have two local employees who receive a fair wage.
We carefully select future projects together with the local authorities. This way we ensure that they have the greatest possible impact on the local population.
