Gammol is a Belgian non-profit organisation with the aim of improving the living conditions of people in Gambia. We can only exist thanks to the support of our sponsors.
Thanks to your support, we can take initiatives in the areas of water and food supply, education, healthcare and economic development.
These initiatives are realised by working closely with local communities. Our work focuses on promoting sustainable changes that both improve the quality of life and strengthen the self-reliance of the local population.
The resources that we receive through you, our sponsors, are used 100% to realise these initiatives. Thanks to this support, this is much more than a drop in the ocean. Every euro makes a difference.
With the help of a few large and many smaller sponsors, we succeed in making a real difference for tens of thousands of children and adults.

Water
By investing in the construction of water towers that pump clean drinking water, you are contributing to the health and well-being of the people of The Gambia. Your contribution will not only help us to provide immediate health benefits, but also to create a sustainable future for the entire community.
The construction of the water towers will create community gardens that provide local food production, contributing to the food security and health of the people of The Gambia. Your contribution will not only help us to address immediate food shortages, but also to create a sustainable future for the community.
Thanks to Gammol, more than 120,000 people in Gambia now have clean, drinkable water every day.
Food
Thanks to the construction of the water towers, community gardens are created that provide local food production, which means you contribute to the food security and health of the people in Gambia. Your contribution not only helps us to tackle the immediate food shortages, but also to create a sustainable future for the community.
Together with some young Gambian entrepreneurs, we are investigating how we can start local rice production. We are really still in the early stages of the test and we are keeping the investment limited in this phase. The aim is to see whether this can be self-sufficient in the long term.
Education
By building nursery schools and improving educational standards, the chances of a better future for children in Gambia are increasing. Thanks to our sponsors, a solid foundation is also being laid for the generations of tomorrow.
Cost and distance
There are schools, subsidized by the state, but they are not accessible to everyone. In the more remote areas there are no resources available and the population is too poor to pay for this themselves. The result: children who often have to walk a few hours a day (!) to get to a school or, in the worst case, do not go to school at all.
New school in Fuffor
We have just built a new school in remote Fuffor. Our focus is on the nursery schools (5 to 8 years). This is not subsidized, which seriously hampers the chances of success for children who do not have the resources to prepare for primary education in private schools (if there are any in their area).
English
Basic requirement is teaching English, condition for later further study. English is the official language in Gambia, but in the remote villages mainly Mandingo, Wolof and the more regional languages are spoken.
Quality
An equally big challenge is the quality of education. A teacher earns an average of 6,000 dalasi per month in Gambia, or 80 euros. Teachers in those remote areas earn even less. The quality of education depends very much on the motivation of the teacher. And often also on what the community can or cannot contribute.
In addition to building classrooms and ensuring that classroom materials are available, we also try to raise the level of education: working on curricula and tests, setting up a Gammol school community where teachers can learn from each other, introducing children to English every day, but also ensuring that the children have lunch at noon...
Healthcare
With your support we can organize workshops and take initiatives, specifically focused on wound care. By investing in the health care of Gambia, you contribute to improving the quality of life and well-being of the local population. Your contribution helps us to not only address immediate health problems, but also to build a sustainable, self-reliant future for the community.
