Leetulor - wound care

Wound care with honey salve

Leetulor

The Leetulor project is a successful collaboration between the nursing school of Hasselt and Gammol. Two graduate nurses developed an ointment for wound care based on honey and vaseline, cheap ingredients that are available locally. In the Mandinka language is "Lee", short for Leeyo, honey and "Tulor" vaseline.

For 6 months the Leetulor ointment was used for wound care in many villages. In workshops we train local people to continue this form of health care independently.

Some of our local collaborators...

HBO5 Hasselt

In collaboration with the HBO5 Nursing department of HAST (Katholiek Onderwijs Hasselt), a few students come to the Gambia every year for a few weeks for their internship. Some stay in the Gammol house in Sanyang and help with all kinds of healthcare initiatives, together with the local medical authorities.
